Measure the length and width of the room in feet, then multiply them together. For example, a room that is 12 feet long and 10 feet wide has 120 square feet (12 × 10 = 120 sq ft). For rooms with alcoves or closets, measure each section separately and add them together.
A 12×12 room is 144 square feet (12 × 12 = 144 sq ft). This is a standard bedroom size and equals exactly 16 square yards or about 13.4 square meters.
To convert square feet to square meters, multiply by 0.0929. For example, 100 sq ft × 0.0929 = 9.29 sq m. To convert square meters to square feet, multiply by 10.764.
